Carpet Cleaning Guide: Cleaning Hot Chocolate Stains From Your Carpet

Having a hot relaxing cup of hot chocolate can lift your mood no matter how tired or frustrated you might be. It is nice to drink especially in cold weather and can be a great companion as you snuggle up in front of your fireplace. Sadly, unfortunate events can sometimes occur and you can accidentally spill some hot chocolate onto your carpet.

The stains that are caused by hot chocolate spills can be a nightmare to get out. Getting these types of stains off of your carpet is not exactly that easy to do, but it is not impossible either. With the right procedures, you can get rid of that ugly stain without any problems. Here’s what you will need to do.

1. Absorb the Excess Hot Chocolate – In order to address the stain that the spill has left behind you will first need to clear up the area of the excess liquid. To do this, you will need to get a sponge or towel and extract the excess hot chocolate from the carpet. Make sure not to rub it further into the carpet fibers. Just use light blotting motions. Repeat this until there is no more liquid being absorbed.

2. Apply a Cleaning Agent onto the Stain – For this step you will have several options to choose from. You can opt to use commercial carpet cleaning products if you have some. But if you don’t, you can always use household ammonia, which is also effective on these kinds of stains. To use ammonia, just mix a teaspoon of it with a cup of water and place it inside a spray bottle. Spray the stained area with the cleaning agent of your choice and then start the next step.

3. Blot the Stain – With the cleaning agent already applied to the stain, get a clean cloth or towel and start blotting the soiled area. You will immediately notice that the stain is transferring onto the cloth. This is good news. Continue doing so until all of the stain is removed. It may take some time but eventually you will totally get rid of the hot chocolate stain.

4. Rinse the Area with Water – The last step is to rinse the area you just cleaned with water. This removes any residue and helps leave your carpet completely clean.

Hot chocolate spills shouldn’t be a source of frustration to you anymore. With these simple steps you can get rid of that hot chocolate stain and have clean and stain-free carpet to enjoy.
